Situated a couple of miles from the city centre St Fagans as we locals call it is a fabulous place to while away an afternoon/day/week depending how the mood takes you.
From about 1948 onwards the museum went around Wales to find buildings of interest, they slowly dismantled these, them lovingly rebuilt them brick by brick in land surrounding St Fagans Castle, they now boast over 40 such structures including: a school, chapel, cockpit, working flour and woollen mills, a miners institute, shops, cottages, sheds but sadly as yet no pubs.
The site is divided into two halves The Castle side – an Elizabethan mansion house with formal gardens to die for, and the museum side all the reconstructed building from Welsh history.
A unique feature of the Museum is all the warding staff have to be able to speak Welsh so it gives the area even more of an authentic feel.
A must see – and it’s FREE.
