Situated in the beautiful Cathays Park, the Museum was opened in the 1920’s to tell ‘The World about Wales – and Wales about the land of its fathers’. This is truly a fantastic building covering every aspect of Wales’ history and natural history. Starting with geology there’s a movie showing how Wales’ position has moved through the millennia from the tropics to its present location. Models of every kind of animal who ever lived in the principality, and you get to sit inside a whale and here the story of how it came to be washed up on the Welsh coast. The history of man is comprehensively covered from the 25,000 year old grave of the red witch in the archaeology section, through to the age of castles and the industrial revolution.
Upstairs the art gallery houses many treasures including one of the best collections of French Impressionist paintings in the world.
Open all week 10.00pm to 5.00pm (closed Monday)
